" Although I use Microsoft Outlook I found that the task tracking in your software has a better view and layout than Outlook. I like the way that icons can be used for different categories, and the different colours that are used in the main task list make it easier to get an overall picture of outstanding issues."

To do list view management tools - simple theory and practice for everyone

To do list view and its main kinds:
Task list is the primary and the most widely used tool for work management as to do list view is easy to create and convenient to track. To do list view means a specific way of placing your tasks on your list. Depending on tasks you carry out, you may use different kinds of to do list view. Each to do list view can be convenient for some specific situation or case. Let's consider main types of to do list view: 1) sorted list 2) numbered list 3) optionally ordered list.

  1. Specificity of sorted list of tasks:
  2. Sorted list is usually used when you need to line up tasks according to values of task attributes, for example you may need to sort your tasks by priority, so the most important tasks move to the top of your to do list view. Sorted list can be descending or ascending, also it may include simultaneous sorting by several tasks attributes. For example you may need to have sorted list first by priority, so tasks with highest priority move to the top of your to do list view, and then by urgency (by due date) - this allows you to see the most urgent tasks among the most important tasks on the first positions of your list. That's why sorted list is a flexible type of to do list view and the easiest way to manage such a flexible list is to use special software for task management.

  3. Specificity of numbered list of tasks:
  4. Numbered list is inflexible to do list view, because numbered list includes tasks ordered in successive, one-by-one manner. Numerically ordered list is the only way to represent workflow where you cannot miss even one step, because you will not be able to do next steps and to achieve the final results. In the most cases priority is unimportant for numbered list as all tasks there have nearly equal importance. Numbered list is usually called a checklist - from simple grocery checklist to complicated hierarchical project checklist. Special software for task management can be successfully used for numbered list management and creation of templates for frequently used lists.

  5. Software to manage optionally ordered list of tasks:
  6. As you know ordered list of tasks includes sequence of actions to be completed, such as steps toward completing a project. Optionally ordered list of tasks is to do list view where tasks are not sorted or strictly numbered. This is a list where tasks are placed according to some specific order which is manually set by task list user. Optionally ordered list can be used, for example, when there is no difference between tasks for user and he/she places the most pleasant or easy tasks to the top of the list.
