Most common problem of to-do lists is that we forget that to-do list is for tasks that must be accomplished in a short period of time, not in a long period of time (for long period of time we use master list), that is why our to-do lists seems to be endless and we feel ourselves overwhelmed. Here are several simple steps to get the things done in time and feel the difference between to-do list and master list:

  • Write down your tasks or keep them in software, to have a clear picture which tasks you plan to accomplish.
  • Learn the difference between to-do list and master list. The difference is that to-do list is more for daily tasks and master list for all the tasks that you plan to accomplish.
  • Prioritize the tasks in your master list by importance and urgency, to know which tasks must be accomplished first and which can wait.
  • Transfer most important and urgent tasks from your master list to your to-do list, but don't transfer too much tasks (maybe 5-6 tasks a day), then you won't feel yourself overwhelmed.
  • Don't mix up tasks with projects. Task is one step and the project is multiple steps, to accomplish a project quicker and easier, just break it down to smaller parts and accomplish each part step by step.
  • Don't add new tasks to your to-do list until you have some uncompleted, you can add some tasks to your master list and transfer next important task as soon as all the tasks in your to-do list will be completed (stricken out).
  • Reward yourself for each completed task, even if you don't complete al the tasks you planned during a day, don't give up and keep trying. You can do it!
