Make your goals SMART
|
All companies and organizations have different kinds of goals. Goals can be long-term and short-term, specific and undefined, easy and difficult, etc. However, the point of goal setting is to achieve them. That is why your goals must be SMART if you want to succeed within your company or organization. SMART goals must include the following characteristics: |
- Specific: Goals must be clear and specific. If you set such kind of goal to the employees then they have a clear picture of things you expect from them.
- Measurable: If the goals are not measurable, then you can't control whether your employees make any progress towards the goals accomplishment.
- Achievable: Goals must be achievable and the time frame of their accomplishment must be realistic, so your employees can accomplish them in estimated time frame.
- Relevant: By Pareto's 80/20 rule, 80% of employees' productivity comes from 20% of their activities. So, the goals must be relevant as they impact on employee's activities and get your company closer to your aim.
- Time-bound: Goals must have start, finish and due date. When you set deadlines to goals, you help your employees to avoid procrastination and motivate them to accomplish their goal before the due date.
