Project sheet is a list of numerous tasks that should be done on the project in order to get it complete, or get complete certain project stages and achieve intermediate goals. Template - in its traditional meaning, is a paper form that can be filled with records about tasks. Usually it simply consists of lines and columns where lines represent tasks and columns - their attributes like target dates, assignments, priorities etc. The templates are widely used for project planning as well as for project tracking.

Periodically, such templates can be distributed among employees, so they can record statuses of their tasks into individual sheet template. Then work sheets are collected and delivered to project manager so he/she can study them in order to record down progression into general project tasks. Another variant is when project manager's assistant goes through office carrying template and interviews project participants in order to clarify what progress is achieved on their tasks. Both variants to update a sheet are quite inconvenient, as well as everything that is connected to using paper means for collecting information, that's why many organizations use available computer-based means to facilitate their activities.

For example widely used way is application of MS Excel - Excel file with list of tasks is placed in a shared folder within LAN and users open this Excel file to record their progress. Of course, this way is not perfect as well, because project sheet Excel file cannot be simultaneously edited by several users, so users have to record their progress by turns. That's why it is advisable to use special template software that enables multiple users to edit project sheet simultaneously.
